Chief Chris Habekost Chris was raised on Martha’s Vineyard and has lived here since 1973. Chris previously worked for the Edgartown and West Tisbury Police Departments and started as a Special Police Officer in Tisbury in 1998. Chris was selected as a full-time recruit officer in July of 2003 and subsequently graduated from the Weymouth regional police academy in March of 2004. Chris was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2012 and then interim Chief in July of 2021. Chris lives in Edgartown with his wife Marcela and their three children, one of whom has special needs. Chris is active with his family’s lifestyle and activities and enjoys spending time on home improvement and classic truck restoration.

Level 1 Where the Sex Offender Registry Board determines that the risk of re-offense by an offender is low and the degree of dangerousness posed to the public by that offender is not such that a public safety interest is served by public availability, the Board shall give that offender a Level 1 designation. Information on Level 1 offenders will not be available to the public. Neither the police nor the Board have authority to disseminate information to the general public identifying a Level 1 offender. Information identifying Level 1 offenders may only be given to the Department of Correction, any county correctional facility, the Department of Youth Services, the Department of Social Services, the parole Board, the Department of Probation and the Department of Mental Health, all city and town police departments and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for law enforcement purposes. SEX OFFENDER CLASSIFICATIONS Level 2 Where the Board determines that the risk of re-offense is moderate and the degree of dangerousness posed to the public is such that a public safety interest is served by public availability of registration information, it shall give a Level 2 designation to the sex offender. The public shall have access to the information regarding a Level 2 offender through the Local Police Department and through the Sex Offender Registry Board. SEX OFFENDER REGISTRY BOARD Level 3 Where the Board determines that the risk of re-offense is high and the degree of dangerousness posed to the public is such that a substantial public safety interest is served by active dissemination, it shall give a Level 3 designation to the sex offender. CONNECT'S WEBSITE Vineyard House provides housing for Island men and women in need of a safe structured living environment while they are in the early stages of recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. In 2014 we moved into a new specially designed sober living community with separate houses for men and women, an administration building, and 12 step meeting rooms to provide the support residents need while renewing responsibilities to themselves, their families and the community. Our Police Station Parking lot can now be utilized to make these types of exchanges. When figuring out a place to meet someone to pick-up or drop-off your goods, just tell them you want to meet at the Tisbury Police Station. You do not need to contact us prior, unless it may be an odd hours exchange, which isn't recommended. We only provide a safe place to exchange items. We will not get involved in any of the transactions. This includes, holding, storing, or exchanging of any property. It doesn't matter in which town you work or live, our station is here for all. FINGERPRINTING The Tisbury Police Department offers fingerprinting services for island residents and visitors. Fingerprints are sometimes required when applying for certain jobs, passport applications, volunteering opportunities, internships, government related endeavors, etc. Applicants must provide a valid photo ID at the time of service and indicate what agency you are being fingerprinted for. Currently there is no fee for fingerprinting services. Fingerprint services are available most Mondays-Fridays 8a-4p by appointment. For questions or further assistance, please call 508-696-4240.
